2025 has been a year, hasn’t it?
Somehow both longer and shorter than it should be, full of chaos, comfort reading, unexpected plot twists (in life and on the page), and many, many nights where I stayed up far too late whispering, “just one more chapter.”
Romantasy has absolutely dominated my reading this year — not just as escapism, but as a reminder that these stories, desires, emotions, and communities matter. These books made me feel alive. They made me clutch my chest, kick my feet, cry, and occasionally stare at the wall in silence.
So here they are:

1. Brimstone
If Quicksilver hooked you, Brimstone will ruin you (affectionately).
Saeris and Kingfisher deliver tension, longing, and a world so sharp it feels like it might cut you if you touch it. I walked around for days after finishing this one, emotionally jet-lagged and deeply satisfied. A masterpiece of devastation.
2. The Ascended
Epic scope, soaring emotions, found family, ancient powers awakening — this book had everything I want in romantasy and then some. It reminded me why I fell in love with the genre in the first place: because it makes the ordinary feel extraordinary. Stunning.
3. A Kiss of Hammer and Flame
Power, prophecy, and a romance that glows like banked embers — warm, slow, full of promise. This is a true slow burn, the kind that takes its time and rewards your patience with beautifully layered tension. Brutal in its stakes, tender in its emotional beats, and gorgeously structured — I devoured it.

4. Onyx Storm
The hype is deserved.
Tropes? Flawless.
Worldbuilding? Addictive.
Romantic tension? Enough to power a small kingdom.
This was one of the biggest releases of the year for a reason.
5. Alchemised
To know this one is to love it. Heart-wrenching, twisty, clever, and emotionally explosive. Trad publishing has finally embraced the emotional ferocity AO3 readers adore — and Alchemised is shining evidence.
6. The Knight and the Moth
Slow burn excellence.
Palpable. Electric. Deliciously restrained.
If longing is your love language, this one will undo you.
7. In the Veins of the Drowning
Atmospheric, eerie, beautifully written, and deeply emotional. It balances gothic horror and aching romantasy in a way that feels completely unique. A standout read of the year.
8. Heir of Illusion
A lush, immersive romantasy with high stakes and a strong heroine navigating secrets, magic, and betrayal. Perfect for readers who love court politics, hidden truths, and slow-burning connection.
9. The Ordeals
Mythic, sweeping, full of ancient power and brutal trials. It feels like reading a legend being rewritten in real time. Darkly romantic and intensely addictive.
10. The Second Death of Locke
Moody, gothic, atmospheric.
A story about death, memory, devotion, and the quiet kind of love that lingers long after the last page. I’m still thinking about it.
