As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships but her best friend does, and that's what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is on her way to a happily ever after was always going to be tough, scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting woman, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.

That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when he agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive's career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding .

. . six-pack abs.

Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

About the Author

Ali Hazelwood is the New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author of multiple romance novels, as well as a writer of peer-reviewed articles about brain science, in which no one makes out and the ever after is not always happy. Originally from Italy, she lived in Germany and Japan before moving to the US to pursue a PhD in neuroscience. She recently became a professor, which absolutely terrifies her. When Ali is not at work, she can be found running, eating cake pops, or watching sci-fi movies with her three feline overlords (and her slightly-less-feline husband).

The Love Hypothesis was the first rom-com trope book I ever read, and I loved it!

The Love Hypothesis was the first rom-com trope book I ever read, and I loved it! From the very first pages, the story had such a captivating feel and vibe. The dynamics between Olive and Adam felt smooth and engaging, almost like Cheers in a science lab. I adore that unique atmosphere throughout the story. The side characters were also fantastic and humour-filled, which complemented Ali Hazelwood's superb writing. It was such an easy read that drew me in completely. I will check out more of the author's talented works and highly recommend this as a must-read!

Funny, smart romcom

I really enjoyed this. A nice romcom in between my usual stuff. The characters are just all so wholesome and even though some of the usual tropes can sometimes feel frustrating there is no unnecessary drama, just two insecure dorks stuck inside their own heads not realising what everyone around them can clearly see. The banter is well written and the supporting characters are loveable. It’s definitely one of those books that you can’t help smiling at as you read.

Totally lived up to the hype!

I've been meaning to read this book for the longest time and so happy that I had time to do so this week."It hit her then what was so special about Adam. That no matter his reputation, or how rocky their first meeting, since the very beginning, Olive had felt that he was on her side."Olive Smith and Adam Carlsen made my heart race! Olive was super smart, earnest and adorable. Adam was serious, dry, yet showed a side to himself to Olive that was alien to everyone else around them. I loved the dynamic between them and the way he supported her. When their chemistry finally reached a physical level, wowzers! I thrilled at Adam's passion and adoration of Olive. This was such a fabulous read and totally lived up to the hype!

Funny academic romance

This was my first read by Ali Hazelwood and I rather enjoyed it. Although is it an academic romance it has a wide appeal to all. So the premise of the book is PHD candidate Olive in order to convince her best friend Anh that she should date Jeremy Olive’s ex who she really likes (btw I personally think this sucks as who dates their best friends ex?). In its to convince Anh she is dating and over Jeremy Olive kisses the first man she see, Dr Adam Carlson - the well known grump of the biology department and secret admirer of Olive. Both for various different reasons agree to enter into a fake relationship. This book falls into the Academia genre of romance and romance with strong grumpy sunshine vibes, Olive was so endearing and sweet and I enjoyed watching her open up to Adam as he surprises her by offering her his unwavering support. Adam shows Olive nothing but his kindness and unwavering support while she goes through various up and downs and in turn Olive I think rather brings out the best in Adam. The confrontation near the end when Adam comes to Olive’s defense was enough to make a women swoon. If you you sweet, endearing but determined realistic FFM’s and brooding, grumpy but kind and loving FFM’s set in an academic world then you will thoroughly enjoy this book and I would hesitate to recommend it to you.
